With six-in-line and rear-wheel drive

Mazda is expanding its European and therefore also Dutch delivery range this year with the brand new CX-80, but that is not the only SUV that the manufacturer has in store. The brand is now looking ahead to the CX-90!
Mazda is rapidly renewing its range. In 2021, it expanded its European delivery range with the CX-60, an SUV that was not only Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid, but also got rear-wheel drive. The new SUV with which Mazda shoots at the BMW X3 is also available with six-in-line petrol and diesel engines. An interesting newcomer, but certainly not the last. This year Mazda will bring the CX-80 to the Netherlands, but it will not stop there.
The Mazda CX-90, like the CX-80 destined for Europe, will be a seven-seater with three rows of seats.
Mazda pulls the curtain on January 31 on the CX-90, another new SUV. However, you should not expect that in the Netherlands. In fact, it is not even coming to Europe, it is mainly intended for the American market. In turn, the CX-60 isn’t coming to the United States, instead Mazda is bringing the non-European and yet-to-be-revealed CX-70 to the US. In a nutshell, the CX-60 will be a CX-80 for Europe, the CX-70 and CX-90 will be for North America.
Like the CX-80 we get, the Mazda CX-90 will be an SUV with three rows of seats. Under the skin, both the CX-80 and the CX-90 probably rely heavily on the CX-60 and CX-70. This means that they are also basically rear-wheel drive SUVs that not only get a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but also six-in-line petrol and diesel engines. Mazda previously released specifications of the six-in-line diesels as they become available in Europe. Mazda is now sharing the first data of the six-in-line petrol engine with turbo, although it is still the variant for the American market. It will be 345 hp and 500 Nm strong and has a stroke volume of 3.3 liters. The CX-90 gets four-wheel drive, although according to the manufacturer, most of the power goes to the rear axle.
We will know more about the Mazda CX-90 at the end of this month. We expect that it will not be long before Mazda reveals the CX-80 destined for Europe.
