Until now we only know the Mazda MX-30 with a fully electric powertrain, but the compact crossover based on the CX-30 is now also available with a mild hybrid power plant!
The Mazda MX-30 based on the CX-30 has entered the history books as the brand’s first series-built electric vehicle. Under the hood is a modest battery pack with a capacity of 35.5 kWh and a 145 hp electric motor that drives the front wheels. Mazda has presented a brand new variant of the MX-30 in Japan, which has no electrical heart!
The youngest sprout is fully called MX-30 e-Skyactiv G, and anyone who is somewhat familiar with Mazda engine designations knows that there is a petrol engine under the hood. It is a 2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which is linked to a starter generator. Yes, the MX-30 e-Skyactiv-G is therefore equipped with mild hybrid technology. We already know this M Hybrid system from the facelifted Mazda 2 and from the CX-30 on which the MX-30 largely relies. In the CX-30 range, both the Skyactiv-G 122 and Skyactiv-X 180 are equipped with Mazda’s M Hybrid system. Although the Japanese do not release extensive technical specifications of the MX-30 e-Skyactiv-G, for the sake of convenience we assume that the powertrain is identical to that of the CX-30 Skyactiv-G 122.
The Netherlands
Unfortunately: according to the Dutch importer, the MX-30 e-Skyactiv-G is purely and only intended for the Japanese market. Incidentally, there is probably another new powertrain for the MX-30 in the barrel. For example, an electric version with a Wankel motor as a range extender seems to be coming in the long term.
