McLaren 720S GT3X is breaking regulations

McLaren presents a track-focused 720S that has its roots in racing: the 720S GT3X. It goes further than the racing version on which it is based.

McLaren has taken its GT3 racer by the scratch, sharpened it even more and placed it on an exclusive order list. In short, that’s how you should see this GT3X. The 720S GT3 racer is, of course, bound by regulations set by the FIA, but that doesn’t stop McLaren from making it a version that goes one step further.

As with the track monster that served as the basis, we see a large package of aerodynamic extras to press the car against the asphalt even more. In addition, the GT3X is, just like the official race car, a lot lighter than the regular 720S: 200 kilos to be precise. A big difference with the homologated GT3 is that this GT3X draws no less than 200 hp more power from a 4.0 biturbo V8 specially adapted for this version, the same 720 hp that puts the street-legal 720S to the scale. Incidentally, with a special ‘push-to-pass’ button you can temporarily get about 30 extra horsepower out of the block. With its lower weight, the GT3X therefore naturally has a wonderful power-to-weight ratio: almost 600 hp per ton. Unfortunately, McLaren does not report exactly how fast he is with that, but you can count on an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in roughly 2 seconds.

The largely carbon fiber 720S GT3X has been stripped of a lot of interior things for the aforementioned weight savings, has race-adapted suspension, extra-powerful braking and stands on Pirelli P Zero’s encased wheels. Of course there is also a roll cage available. As said, only 11 copies of these are produced track days intended 720S GT3X built. What the undoubtedly wealthy racing fanatics have to give up, is also left out out of courtesy.
