McLaren Artura Spider

The McLaren Artura receives a series of improvements that should make it a bit faster and sharper. Not only that; there is now also an open version, the Artura Spider.

Three years ago, McLaren put its Sports Series aside for a brand new hybrid sports car: the McLaren Artura. It currently takes its position between the recently unveiled McLaren GTS and the McLaren 750S. Those two appeared in 2023 and suddenly made the Artura a relative veteran, but now McLaren has a refreshed version ready. Not only that: from now on there is also an open version; the Artura Spider.

We’ll start with the innovations, because they also apply to the brand new Spider. The hybrid powertrain of the McLaren Artura is now 20 hp stronger: the system power increases from 680 hp to 700 hp, so it is closer to its sportier brother in that respect. The power spurt is entirely attributable to the V6, which has become more powerful thanks to new calibration. The electric motor still delivers 95 hp. Speaking of that electric motor; The Artura can also move completely independently and from now on it can do so for a distance of 33 km, previously the Artura had an electric driving range of 30 km. You won’t notice from the sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h that the McLaren Artura has become a bit more powerful. That is still over in 3 seconds. However, it is a bit faster in intermediate sprints and shifting with the eight-speed automatic transmission should also be a bit smoother. The top speed is still 330 km/h.

More news? Of course. McLaren has overhauled the exhaust system of the Artura to make the V6 scream even better. The suspension has also been improved and the adaptive damping should respond up to 90 percent faster. There are also new engine mounts and the brakes are even better cooled, all in all this should lead to an Artura that is even more alert in the bends than before. Not very relevant, but still fun: the Artura gets the ‘Spinning Wheel Pull-Away’ function known from the Speedtails, with which you can tear away in a nice and dramatic manner with screeching tires. On the other hand, the McLaren Artura will have a wider range of safety systems, undoubtedly due to the stricter EU regulations in that area. For example, Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now available.

McLaren Artura Spider

And then of course there is perhaps the biggest news; the arrival of the brand new open version of the McLaren Artura, the Spider. It has one roof section that can be opened and closed electrically. This can be done up to a speed of 50 km/h and opening and closing takes 11 seconds. The roof is also fitted with electrochromic glass, which allows you to determine how much light comes in when the roof is closed. That special roof is ‘several kilos heavier’ than the standard roof, which adds 62 kilos of weight to the Artura. That extra weight is really purely in the roof: the base of the Spider is identical to that of the coupe and has not been further reinforced, because its stiffness does not depend on the roof. McLaren promises that the Spider is just as stiff as the coupe.

AutoWeek also immediately has the prices of the updated McLaren Artura and the brand new Artura Spider. The McLaren Artura will cost at least €263,100, the McLaren Artura Spider €289,500.
