McLaren Elva in Gulf jacket

A British hypercar in a retro livery. It seems like a subcategory that can consist of no more than one car, yet the Lotus Evija will be joined by the McLaren Elva in Gulf colors during the Goodwood Speedweek.

McLaren will be presenting the special Elva at Goodwood Speedweek, a largely digital event for fans of what happens in normal years on the legendary Goodwood landscape. In honor of that event, the windshield-less super sportsman is dressed in a Gulf jacket. The blue / orange color scheme is probably the most recognizable and often used retro color scheme in the automotive world.

Without helmet

The Gulf colors are of course sprayed on the Elva by MSO, McLaren’s personalization arm. The presentation of this car is a great opportunity for McLaren to bring the Elva to the attention once again, because we certainly don’t see it every day. The Elva was presented as an extremist in the Ultimate Series in 2019. This puts the model next to the Speedtail at the very top of the range, but there are still major differences. Where the Speedtail is a kind of super-fast über-GT with a three-seater interior, with the Elva all practical objections are resolutely out the window. Even a windscreen is missing on this super sports fan, which seems to share some elements with the 720S at the rear. An ingenious wind deflection system must ensure that the occupants can still walk on the street without a helmet, although the circuit seems to be a more suitable setting.

149 pcs

The Elva is powered by – how could it be otherwise – an extremely pumped-up version of the well-known 4.0-liter V8. It delivers 815 hp and 800 Nm and pushes the fully open car from 0 to 100 km / h within three seconds. The sprint to 200 is over in 6.7 seconds. The Elva is also expensive: in the Netherlands the car cost € 1,774,745. McLaren previously promised 399 copies, but that number has now dropped to 149 copies. Anyone who can afford it will have an even more exclusive car.
