Mercedes-AMG C 53 better in the picture

Behind the scenes, the new Mercedes C-Class is eager to make its debut. Of course, the line-up is not complete without the necessary fireworks from Mercedes-AMG. The sub-top of the series, which will most likely go through life as C 53, has dropped some of its camouflage.

It won’t be long before the unveiling of an all-new generation of the C-Class presents itself. We already have a good idea of how the D-segmenter van Das Haus will look like later. As for the more fierce variants, both the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and the C 53 already spotted in camouflage. The latter is now packaged a little less enthusiastically than was previously the case. At the front, the contours of the headlights and the grille are now much more visible. It seems that the C 53 is now also allowed to use the ‘Panamericana’ grille. That grille with vertical bars is one of the characteristic aspects with which you can distinguish an AMG from its less fortunate brothers today.

Furthermore, the C 53 has sportier bumpers and four round tailpipes at the rear. The C 63 will of course be a lot thicker, with four even larger tailpipes in the rear bumper. Furthermore, the rear lights are also visible for the first time on this prototype, on the previously spotted C 53 they were provided with an extra cap. The design of the horizontal rear lights appears to follow that of the S-Class and the recently facelifted E-Class, bringing the C-Class back into line with its bigger brothers. Incidentally, this seems to apply to the design of the entire car. However, in order to be able to assess that properly, Mercedes must first pull the canvas of the new C-class.

Nothing is officially known yet about the specifications of the new Mercedes-AMG C 53. It is expected that there will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo under the hood with more than 400 hp. Whether the block is from the AMG variants of the A and CLA, or another four-cylinder with more electric assistance, will be revealed later. The C 63 also does not escape the necessary downsizing: the range topper loses no less than four cylinders, according to various rumors. Mercedes-AMG cannot ignore the stricter CO2 standards either. There is talk of a hybrid powertrain that in terms of power should approach that of the current C 63, although it would be a very tough step to go from a V8 to a four-cylinder.
