As the unveiling of the new Mercedes-AMG C43 and C63 approaches, Affalterbach is gradually peeling off the camouflage material from the prototypes. The spy photos of this C63 Sedan and C43 Estate give a good impression of what the end result will look like.

The AMG treatment is not exactly earth-shattering for the C-class. At the front, both the C43 – which can also be called C53 – and the C63 can be recognized by the ‘Panamericana’ grille with vertical bars. The difference between the two is in the cooling vents in the front bumper. Where those on both sides of the C43 are closed and contain two horizontal slats, the C63 does not appear to have fake air intakes in the front bumper. The C63 also has more flared wheel arches, making it clearly thicker than its less fortunate brother.

At the rear, the C43 can be recognized by four round tailpipes for the exhaust, where the C63, like the other top models from Affalterbach, has four trapezoidal tailpipe trim pieces. The diffusers of the C43 and C63 also differ from each other, with that of the latter being even better wrapped. Remarkably enough, the prototype of the C63 has a towbar. You would probably expect that on the more practical Estate. Logically, the C63 also comes as an Estate and the C43 Estate gets a sedan brother. Also nice: a few large dice hang on the interior mirror of the prototype of the C63.

Nice dice.

A warning for electrocution can also be seen on the prototype of the C63. Mercedes-AMG already explained the powertrain of the C63 in its electrification plans. Under the hood will be a longitudinally placed 2.0 four-cylinder turbo, a further development of the M139 engine from the A45 S. That power source must deliver 450 hp, an electric motor on the rear axle then kicks the system power to more than 650 hp. Much more than the 510 hp of the BMW M3 Competition. The C43 is also expected to get the 2.0 under the hood, but without plug-in hybrid support and with a power of between 400 and 450 hp. Mercedes-AMG is expected to pull the curtain on the C43 first, the C63 to follow shortly after.
