Partly electric
The strongest version of the recently unveiled brand new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the E400 e, but it won’t stay that way for long. Here we see the new Mercedes-AMG E53, which is being tested as a sedan and estate.
Now that the brand new Mercedes-Benz E-class has been unveiled, it’s a matter of waiting for the models for which Mercedes-AMG is responsible. There will not only be a Mercedes-AMG E63, but also a milder E53. Here we see the second, recognizable by the round exhaust tips. The E63 will get trapezoidal copies again.
Mercedes-AMG has made quite a bit of work to pack the E53, while the E-class now has no surprises in store for us. Don’t expect too noticeable changes anymore; with things like the Panamericana grille, larger air intakes and thick wheels, you’ve had the biggest external extras.
But there is more news to report. The Mercedes-AMG E53 will soon be available as a plug-in hybrid, just like the C43, C63 and S63. Presumably, the E53 (just like the sportiest C-classes) will have a 2.0 four-cylinder that will receive support from an electric motor. In the E53 that should already be good for a system power of about 600 hp. Not enough? The E63 also becomes a plug-in and it goes even further. It is still exciting how many cylinders it still has under the hood. We expect the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG E53 this year, the E63 will take a little longer.
