Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door gets minor update

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door has been slightly updated. The term ‘facelift’ really goes too far in our opinion, because it mainly concerns differences in equipment and adjustment.

The AMG GT 4-Door has been with us for almost three years with its birth year 2018, so Mercedes thinks it’s time for a small touch-up session. In this case, it is even smaller than before with the CLS, the car that forms an almost direct competitor indoors for the lighter motorized versions of the 4-Door.

Colors and wheels

The design of the AMG GT 4-Door, for example, remains unchanged, although it is now possible, according to Mercedes, to provide the six-cylinder models (43 and 53) with the appearance of the eight-cylinder (63). There’s also a new AMG Night Package, which seems to go a bit further in darkening parts than the first version. For example, the Mercedes logo and the type designation are now also in black for those who order this package.

There are also new wheel designs in 20- and 21-inch and two new colors, although Mercedes speaks by choosing matte and glossy for ‘Blue Magno’ of three. The interior is also getting acquainted with new color schemes. In addition to new leather combinations, there is also more choice in the field of finish, thanks to the arrival of new types of wood.

Steering wheel and chassis

New in all cases is the steering wheel. The standard version sticks to new buttons on the spokes, but the optional AMG Performance wheel is now of the kind that we previously found in the new S-Class, among others. Double spokes, for a total of – for those who want – six pieces.

Mercedes has also adjusted the air-suspended chassis somewhat, although this now mainly concerns the adjustment of an earlier hardware sharpened whole. The AMG GT 4-Door must therefore now offer an even greater spread between comfort and sportiness.

Hybrids

We expect more AMG GT news soon, because Mercedes has been testing new, electrified engine versions for a while. These are the long-awaited E-Performance hybrids, of which a very strong plug-in top version may become the most powerful street Mercedes ever. Mercedes will keep these variants under wraps for a while, but promises that they will appear ‘soon’.
