Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door partly electrically on the road

Mercedes-AMG prepares the GT 4-Door Coupé for the next lap. Now it comes by in a special color scheme and that is not the only thing that betrays that we have a special version in front of us here.

In the vicinity of the Nürburgring, this particularly dressed and only minimally camouflaged GT 4-Door Coupé showed up. The four-door GT from Mercedes-AMG continues virtually unchanged in appearance, but the big news is hidden under the bodywork. After all, we know the color scheme from the photos in an earlier communiqué from Mercedes-AMG and when we zoom in we see not only ‘V8 Biturbo’ on the flank under the air scoop, but also ‘E Performance’. So this is a very strong plug-in hybrid version of the 4-Door Coupé.

Mercedes-AMG is working on partly electric powertrains, some of which are given the task of producing substantial power with fewer cylinders, while other powertrains have the main goal of enabling groundbreaking performance. The latter is the case with this car. After all, it still has the 4.0 biturbo V8 in the nose, but it is supported by an electric motor on the rear axle.

The thus all-wheel drive GT 4-Door is expected to deliver more than 800 hp of system power. This makes it the most powerful street-legal Mercedes ever. ’73 E Performance ‘has been circulating in the corridors for a while as the type designation for this GT 4-Door Coupé. A slightly milder version, the 63 S, gets the V8 with mild hybrid technology in it. With the temporarily usable EQ-Boost, it will probably deliver around or just above 650 hp.
