Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door takes back Nürburgring record

Mercedes-AMG was apparently not comfortable that Porsche recently took a Ring record with the Panamera. The GT 4-door 63 S now has it back in its hands.

It may sound a bit childish, but catching records at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife is extremely important for many manufacturers. After all, it shows that you offer the fastest car in that class. Mercedes-AMG was therefore not comfortable that in September the Porsche Panamera Turbo went through the ‘Green Hell’ faster than its own luxury top model; the 4-door 63 S 4Matic +. He previously held the record in the ‘Luxury Class’.

Time for a new attempt and with success. In 7 minutes and 27.8 seconds the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-through completed the 20.8 km long lap. About 2 seconds faster than the Porsche and 2.3 seconds faster than the last time the Mercedes did with this car. Then we look at the entire circuit, on the 20.6 km long measuring distance (which is viewed for record measurements) the car finished in 7: 23.01.

The 640 hp fastest four-door Mercedes-AMG was driven by driver Demian Schaffert. He was also the one who set the previous record with this car two years ago. According to Mercedes, the time has been officially observed by record notaries and is therefore entered in the books as the new Ring record in the ‘Luxury Class’.
