Mercedes-AMG GT ’73’ 4-Door Coupé on the road

Mercedes-AMG is sharpening the 4-Door Coupé this year and there seems to be interesting news to arrive, especially in terms of drive. Reportedly, in this fresh photo series we see the ’73’, an extremely strong plug-in hybrid.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door has now been with us for almost three years and that is long enough for ‘Das Haus’ to add to the super-fast four-door. Although the change in appearance seems to be limited, something special is on the way in the technical field. After all, Mercedes promised that a plug-in hybrid 4-Door Coupé would appear, which combines the power of the 4.0 biturbo V8 with electric power. It is said to bear the designation ’73’ and that immediately indicates where we should see that version in the range: at the very top.

Where the current top version, the 63 S, kicks it on pure petrol power to 639 hp, the expectation is that the 73 will well exceed that. The powertrain of the forerunner on the 4-Door Coupé, the AMG GT Concept from 2017, is probably a good reference point for this. It combined the V8 with an electric motor on the rear axle, resulting in a system power of 805 hp. That would mean that the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid could get very tough. Count on a 0-100 km / h acceleration in 3 seconds or maybe even slightly less. In any case, there is a good chance that the 4-Door will become the most powerful street-legal Mercedes ever with the arrival of the 73. That is now the 730 hp Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

Those who think that a bit too much of a good thing can also look forward with healthy excitement to the updates for the other sporty bangers that are coming. The 63 and 63 S may be assigned mild hybrid technology, which probably also makes them a bit more powerful. Incidentally, the 43 and 53 are already equipped with the so-called EQ-Boost.
