Mercedes-AMG is reportedly nearly to end production of the AMG GT Coupé and AMG GT Roadster. The Porsche 911 competitor has called it quits after seven years.
It has been more than seven years since we were introduced to the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé. The successor to the SLS AMG, which had to make it really difficult for the Porsche 911 with considerably more finesse. It appeared in many variants, such as the GT S, GT R and fairly recently the all-outcome Black Series. For lovers of open violence, the AMG GT Roadster appeared two years after the Coupé. Now this chapter in its history that has been very successful for Mercedes-AMG will probably come to an end very soon.
The Spanish motor.es reports that the order books are closed and the last copies will be delivered before the end of this year. Production will stop in December. Only orders received at the beginning of this month would be processed. The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé and Roadster are now only available from stock here in the Netherlands. The end seems indeed in sight and that in itself is not a very big surprise. Mercedes-AMG is working on the new SL, which essentially also functions as a successor to the AMG GT Roadster.
A direct successor for the AMG GT Coupé is not yet in the picture. The larger Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé will of course remain and recently even received a brand new partly electric top version.
