Mercedes-Benz has proven several times that the G-Class is the ideal candidate for producing unique versions. With a new teaser, the AMG department announces that another heavy version is coming. Take a good seat for that, because it promises to be something.
With six wheels, without a roof or with an extreme amount of power: the G-class has already been thoroughly overhauled by various parties. This time, the executioner ends up on the work table of Mercedes’ own AMG department. Mercedes’ own car designer Gorden Wagener also stood at that table to transform the G-class. In the teaser, the result is still hidden under a cloth. In one smooth movement, however, the cloth at the back blows up a bit. What we see then is an extremely lowered G-class with immensely large and thick racing wheels. Furthermore, the grids that light up under the canvas at all windows are striking. Everything suggests that it is an extremely sporty circuit version.
However, the accompanying text makes us doubt. In it Mercedes-AMG speaks about the “art of a luxury car” and uses the hashtag “new luxury”. Gorden Wagener is not the only designer at the helm of this G-class. Virgil Abloh is also quoted in the Tweet. The best man is an American designer, entrepreneur and DJ who has been the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collection since March 2018. So you wouldn’t expect an extremely sporty G-class with him at first, but who knows! More coming soon.
