Mercedes-Benz will present the EQA later this year. Das Haus now shows new images of a packed test specimen.
Mercedes-Benz applies its EQ label to all-electric models. The brand already has the EQC and the EQV and the EQA will be added within the foreseeable future. Unlike the EQA Concept that Mercedes-Benz showed in 2017 in Frankfurt, that EQA is not an electric hatchback, but an electric crossover. The EQA will be the fully electric variant of the new second generation GLA. Mercedes-Benz confirms that the EQA will be presented this year, but the unveiling will not take place in Geneva.
To ease the wait, Mercedes-Benz has released a number of images showing the EQA in test suit. Mercedes-Benz also does not present technical specifications today. Count on an EV with an electric range of around 400 kilometers. However, Mercedes-Benz confirms that the following week at the Geneva Motor Show, new plug-in hybrid versions of existing models will be presented. The E-class is refreshed on the show floor and that model benefits from the arrival of a plug-hybrid variant, but also lower-positioned cars receive such a powertrain. For example, Mercedes-Benz shows not only the plug-in hybrid version of the GLA, but possibly also that of the CAP and CLA. These plug-ins probably get the same heart as the 250th versions of the A and B class. Here the well-known 1.3 works together with a 102 hp electric motor, good for a system power of 221 hp and 450 Nm of torque. With the 15.6 kWh battery pack, the GLA should also be able to travel some 70 kilometers electrically. At a later stage, one or more AMG versions will undoubtedly join the ranks.
The EQA is part of Mercedes’ electric model offensive. At the end of 2022, the brand wants ten fully electric models in its portfolio. Mercedes-Benz will produce the EQA in Hambach, France, a production line in which Daimler recently pumped € 500 million to get things ready for the arrival of this smaller EQ model. Daimler is currently building the electric Smart Fortwo and Forfour there.
