Mercedes-Benz EQE quietly chased across the Ring

Mercedes-Benz is preparing the fully electric EQE for its introduction later this year. The little brother of the recently unveiled EQS is first kicked on its tail at the Nürburgring.

Now that Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the EQS as its all-electric flagship, let’s turn our attention to the next ‘EQ’ to come: the EQE. The all-electric equivalent of the E-class. Just like the EQS, it will have a good dose of electric horsepower and of course it must also be properly transferred to the road. This is now being tested at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The EQE sags quite a bit in the corner and that is undoubtedly partly due to the speed with which they tore through the ‘Green Hell’, but you can bet that the EQE is also not lightweight. After all, the EQS puts almost 2,500 kilos in the bowl and the EQE probably does not exceed 2 tons.

What the EQE probably excels at, just like the EQS, is low air resistance. Especially photo 4 clearly shows how special the body of the EQE is. The front is extremely low and the rounded lines continue very gradually in the A-pillars and the roof. At the back we also see no classic angular lines, as is the case with the E-class, for example. It is strongly reminiscent of the EQS, although the EQE looks a bit more compact at the back.

The EQE, like the EQS, sits on the modular EVA platform specially designed for EVs and we now know that it offers space for configurations with rear and all-wheel drive and powers up to 800 hp. For the basic EQE, carefully count on a rear-wheel drive version with well over 200 hp and a 90 kWh battery pack. Higher-market versions with four-wheel drive, a battery pack with roughly 108 kWh capacity and power ratings from over 300 hp to possibly well above 500 hp are also expected. Mercedes-Benz will present the EQE in September.
