Mercedes-Benz is still working on an extreme version of the G-class, the 4×4². It can now prove its steering behavior at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, although it does not seem completely out of place there.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a car that, despite its rich past as an off-road executioner, can nowadays be found more on the asphalt than next to it. Das Haus has been preparing a version for some time that makes you look even less at home on well-traveled roads: the 4×4². A G-class that stands a lot higher off the ground, has a wider track and furthermore with huge wheels with all-terrain tires, wider wheel arches, a roof rack and a large spare wheel on the back looks ready for the end of time.
The G-Class 4×4² looks, just like its predecessor, nice and top-heavy and certainly in the pictures we now have in front of us. We see it tearing across the Nordschleife. While that looks almost as strange as chasing a van on the famous track, there is no doubt that Mercedes is doing this for good. The larger air intakes in the G 4×4² suggest that it also contains a more powerful engine and of course the Germans want to make sure that you can also get along well on the asphalt. Although the previous 4×4² ‘just’ had the 422 hp V8 from the G500 in its nose, it could just be that Mercedes is now spooning in the 585 hp variant from the G63.
