Anyone who said a few decades ago that the archaic G-class would get an electric variant in the future was undoubtedly not taken seriously. But Autoland has changed considerably in the meantime. The electric Mercedes-Benz G-class is definitely coming.

The Mercedes-Benz G-class, which was radically renewed in 2018, is available in various versions and variants, although it is now only available as a five-door. Customers can choose from various petrol and diesel engines. It is available as a rugged 4×4², but also as a fierce AMG with a 585 hp 4.0 V8 with two turbos. But it doesn’t stop there. An electric G-class is coming soon.

Mercedes Benz Concept EQG

The 2021 Concept EQG.

The fact that there will be an electric Mercedes-Benz G-class is actually no surprise. In 2021, ‘Das Haus’ already previewed an electric G-class with EQ naming with the Concept EQG, but it has remained silent for a long time about the final production version. In this set of photos, the production-ready Mercedes-Benz EQG has been caught in test suit, proving they haven’t forgotten about the electric off-roader.

The photographed test sample with the blue-black print has a fairly boarded-up grille and bumper work that differs from the existing G’s. In contrast to the Concept EQG, the two photographed test models simply have a round housing for the spare wheel on the back. The blue-black copy stands on special wheels that should undoubtedly contribute to making the way in which the electric G-class cuts through the wind less inefficient. Count on a powertrain consisting of four electric motors. The arrival of the electric Mercedes-Benz EQG may coincide with the presentation of the facelifted G-class.
