Mercedes-Benz G-Class reaches production milestone

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has reached a milestone. Since the introduction of the Geländewagen, 400,000 have been built.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been with us since 1979, so it is no surprise that significant numbers have been built. Yet it has gone very fast in recent years. The 300,000th G-class was built in 2017, now the 400,000th has rolled off the line. Naturally, the first real generation change plays an important role in this. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz began building the G-Class, which was updated to the last screw and which, purely in appearance, still resembles the original 39-year-long development.

The party number is a G400d, the second cheapest version of the G-class. However, cheap has become a relative term over the years. Here in the Netherlands you will lose just under € 183,000 for a G400d. The G-class, painted in a striking dark red color, goes to a German who, according to Mercedes, already has 20 at home. A real collector. This will probably be the most special because of its important place in the history of the G-class. Incidentally, this milestone is also worth a party in the factory where the G-class is built. Magna-Steyr in Graz, Austria, has been building the G-Class from the start. Incidentally, it was also built there as Puch G in the past and the licensed twin brother Peugeot P4 rolled off the line in France.
