Echo of complaint ACEA

Recently, brand new ACEA president Luca de Meo once again sounded the alarm about the Euro 7 emission standards. Now the head of the works council of Mercedes-Benz fully supports this. He fears thousands of jobs at Mercedes-Benz.
The EU currently plans to introduce the new Euro 7 emission standards for passenger cars in 2025. Among other things, this should reduce nitrogen emissions, but from now on fine dust deposits from brakes and tires will also be scrutinized. Moreover, cars must be able to continue to meet the emission requirements for a longer period of time: at present, a new car must continue to meet the standard for five years and 100,000 kilometres, but that will be ten years and 200,000 kilometres. Luca de Meo, the president of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), recently warned that he expects far-reaching consequences for the European car industry. Ergun Lümali, head of Mercedes’ works council, agrees. He holds his heart for Mercedes-Benz employees.
According to Lümali, Mercedes does support the Euro 7 standard in itself, but not behind the time frame in which it is entered. He said it would come much too soon. “The launch date is unrealistic and does not correspond to the transformation of the factories,” said Lümali DPA. He means that the combustion engine will have to clear the field sooner due to Euro 7, because the emission standard requires investments that are no longer worth it. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz is not yet ready to fully switch to an electric range. “Thousands of jobs at Mercedes are at risk as a result.” If it is up to Lümali, the intended introduction as of 1 July 2025 will be closely reviewed.
