The Mercedes-Benz EQS should become the flagship of Mercedes’ EVs. Or not? There even seems to be a Mercedes-Maybach version.
With the EQ line from Mercedes, the entire range of segments will eventually have to be endowed with the electrical field. The EQS is of course the cream of the crop. The sleek four-door, which will look fundamentally different from the new S-class, should become the ‘S-class among EVs’. A Mercedes-Maybach version is also coming from the S-class, so that begs the question: does that also apply to the EQS? Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius leaves in conversation with Bloomberg hinted that this is indeed the case.
According to the CEO, the absolute top segment is not only a prestigious branch of the car industry, but also one where a lot of money can be made. After all, the margins are large. “We need to improve our financial performance,” said Kallenius. “There is room to do more with the Maybach name and the electric platform offers a number of opportunities.” Previously, analysts already indicated that the new S-class must again bring in big money for Daimler. That also applies to the Mercedes (-Maybach) EQS of course.
The Maybach probably distinguishes itself from the ‘regular’ EQS by means of a slightly changed appearance with more chrome and two-tone color schemes, possibly a longer wheelbase and of course also by (even) more luxury on board. We expect the EQS at the earliest well into the following year. A Maybach version will probably take even longer. There has not yet been a first sign of life.
