Mercedes-Maybach and fashion designer cq. artist Virgil Abloh have joined forces for the second time. On December 1, we’ll see where it leads. Mercedes-Maybach is talking about an electric show car.
The last time that Mercedes and Virgil Abloh worked together, this led to a very special G-class: the ‘Project Geländewagen’. A hugely expanded G-Class with DTM-esque elements, which looked irreverently as if someone had gone wild with a powder extinguisher. A creative excess that apparently left you wanting more, because now Abloh can show his skills again. This time employed by Mercedes-Maybach.
On December 1, Mercedes’ luxury division will show what it has become this time. It promises to be one step more unique than with Project Geländewagen, although that remains to be seen. According to Mercedes-Maybach, this concerns ‘a completely new design, disconnected from previous designs and production specifications’. So it could be more than, for example, a Mercedes-Maybach S-class covered with sheep’s wool or a GLS tackled with a belt sander. The Germans speak of an ‘electric show car’, which for the time being is given the name ‘Project Maybach’. The car also celebrates 100 years of Maybach and “symbolizes a new era of discovery.” We are curious.
