The Chinese manufacturer Roewe is expanding its delivery list with the RX5 Plus, a facelifted variant of the RX5. Still, something special is going on. The arrival of the RX5 Plus suddenly brings the RX5 range to three models.
Roewe released the RX5 in 2016, a 4.55-meter SUV that is similar in size to cars like the Opel Grandland X and Volkswagen Tiguan (photo 4 and 5). In 2019, Roewe presented the longer and fresher RX5 Max, a car that should have initially served as a successor to the RX5, but which was eventually carried alongside the existing model (photos 6 and 7). Now the Chinese manufacturer shows the first images of the RX5 Plus, in fact a facelifted version of the RX5 presented in 2016, but this new incarnation is also simply added to the RX5 family as its own model. That will bring the number of RX5s that Roewe offers in China to three.
Roewe RX5 2016
The RX5 Plus gets a completely new front. Not only does the grille have a different interpretation, things like the front bumper and the headlights are also completely new. The new viewers have a different shape and are cut through by a bright green strip of plastic that optically connects the viewers. In the center of the nose, Roewe has a larger logo and the SUV gets a new hood, complete with a letterbox-like opening that we know from Audi models, among others. The changes at the back are less drastic, but here too adjustments are made. The taillights not only have a new interpretation, they are also completely new in shape. Again they are joined together by an aluminum strip. Above that we read the name of the manufacturer. So no logo on the buttock. At the bottom of the back we notice a new bumper.
Roewe has not released any information about the engines yet, but we are aiming for these to be the same 170 hp and 220 hp 1.5 and 2.0 petrol engines. The RX5 Plus will hit the Chinese market later this year. It is not yet known how long the RX5 Plus will be sold side by side with the regular RX5.
