MG 4 Electric: more than 7 grand cheaper than Volkswagen ID3

MG immediately opens the order books for the 4 Electric. This means that the Dutch prices of the MG 4 Electric are also known. In mid-September, AutoWeek already wrote that the promising electric hatchback could just be several thousand euros cheaper than a comparable Volkswagen ID3. That indeed turns out to be the case. With a starting price of €30,785, the MG 4 Electric is more than €7,000 cheaper than a technically comparable ID3.

From less than 31 mille

For just under 31 grand you can drive the 170 hp MG 4 Electric in Standard version with a 51 kWh battery pack, good for a WLTP range of 350 kilometers. The Volkswagen ID3 costs a minimum of €37,990. In that case you get a 150 hp Volkswagen ID3 Pure with a 45 kWh battery and an almost identical WLTP range of 349 kilometers. You can zoom to a speed of 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. The top speed, like that of all other MGs 4 Electric, is 160 km / h.

The standard equipment of the MG 4 Electric includes a 10-inch infotainment screen, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, automatic LED lighting all around and Keyless Entry and Easy Start. Important note here: the MG 4 Electric Standard does not have a 3-phase charger, but a 6.6 kW 1-phase charger. Fast charging is possible with a maximum of 117 kW.

MG 4 Electric Comfort and Luxury

Higher in the pecking order of the MG 4 Electric is the Comfort version. This version is not only richer equipped, but also has a stronger electric motor that generates 204 hp and a larger battery. It measures 65 kWh and gives the MG 4 Electric a range of up to 450 kilometers. This MG 4 Electric Comfort does have a 3-phase on-board charger as standard with which you can fast charge up to 135 kW. The MG 4 Electric Comfort costs €34,285 and is therefore still cheaper than the basic ID3. In Standard trim, the MG 4 Electric also benefits from extras such as active louvres in the grille, Vehicle 2 Load preparation, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 17-inch alloy wheels. A Volkswagen ID3 technically comparable to this MG 4 Electric is the 204 hp strong ID3 Pro with a 58 kWh battery that kicks it to a range of 426 kilometers. The ID3 Pro will cost you at least €39,990 and is therefore almost €6,000 more expensive than the MG.

MG4 Electric

The absolute top version is the Luxury. Also as a Luxury, the MG 4 Electric has a 204 hp electric motor and the larger 65 kWh battery. The MG 4 Electric Luxury is therefore mainly more spacious in its stuff. MG gives the 4 Electric Luxury a heat pump, heated seats at the front, a 360-degree camera, an extensive navigation system, a leather-covered and electrically heated steering wheel, an induction charger, battery preheating and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. In addition, MG Pilot is standard on this version, a system that links together adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Assist and various other safety systems. From the outside you can recognize the MG 4 Electric, among other things, by its two-part rear spoiler. The MG 4 Electric Luxury costs €36,285.

The MG 4 Electric is 4.29 meters long, making it slightly longer than its major competitor from Wolfsburg. The wheelbase of the 4 Electric is slightly shorter at 2.71 than that of the Volkswagen ID3. The luggage compartment is 350 litres. If you throw the back seat flat, you can store up to 1,177 liters of stuff in the MG 4 Electric.
