Whale SUV

As a car manufacturer, if you want to prevent potential customers from experiencing your new SUV as bulky and heavy, you should definitely not give it the name ‘whale’. MG surprisingly thinks differently about this and does name its latest SUV after the corpulent marine mammals.
The Chinese car manufacturer BYD has a striking fascination with animals that live in and around the sea with the models of its Ocean series. The Ocean series includes the Seagull, Seal, Seal SUV and Dolphin, the last three models of which are intended for the Netherlands. The equally Chinese SAIC Motors also has warm feelings for marine animals and in particular the whale. In 2021, Roewe launched the Jing, an SUV whose name means something like ‘whale’. That Roewe Jing has now been transferred to another SAIC brand: MG. This seems to agree with SAIC’s preference for marine mammals, which are often soaking wet and also large, and calls its version of the whale SUV ‘Whale’. There is not a word of Chinese there.
Whale.
The MG Whale is in fact nothing more than a Roewe Jing for the Middle East. You could see the vertical lines of the grille as ribs. MG says that the design of the grille is inspired by whales. But there are more references. For example, the lever of the machine is supposed to resemble the tail of a whale and we see – don’t quote us on it – a blue whale on the headrests. The MG Whale has rear doors with hidden handles and an interior with two curved displays, each measuring 12.3 inches. You will find few buttons in it. Like a whale, or something like that.
An automatic lever as if it were a whale’s tail.
Although MG sells a plug-in hybrid in the Netherlands with the EHS, you now mainly know the brand here for its EVs. This MG Whale has no electric powertrain and no plug-in hybrid power. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with turbo. You don’t have to expect him in the Netherlands.
