Sturdy, heavy but very strong
MG is expanding its delivery range in Europe in 2024 with a very special model. MG is the first manufacturer to bring an electric two-seater roadster to Europe. It’s called MG Cyberster, has gull-wing doors and promises to be a real fun machine.
Those who had hoped for hard figures about horsepower, Nm’s and kWh’s, we have to disappoint. During Auto Shanghai, MG only released the exterior of the MG Cyberster, but that is special enough.
At a time when new models and especially fully electric cars are showered with bombastic designs full of sharp corners and an abundance of folds and kinks, the MG Cyberster looks remarkably classic. It doesn’t have extremely aggressive headlights peering into the world that give it a face as if it prefers to eat your soul yesterday. Where did the inspiration for the infill of the headlights come from? That’s actually not that fun. According to MG, the layout of the lighting is inspired by the symbol for radioactivity, among other things.

There are of course also more interesting design elements. For example, the MG Cyberster has rear lights with an arrow pointing outward in each unit. The MG Cyberster has a fabric folding roof and with its butterfly doors it even feels like a Lamborghini. “We intended to develop a completely new roadster, one for a new generation of sports car drivers,” said Carl Gotham, Advanced Design Director of MG’s London-based design studio in an accompanying letter. Whether or not we succeeded, we leave to the viewer.
Big, heavy and very strong
For a roadster, the MG Cyberster is certainly not a small one. Earlier AutoWeek not only surfaced the patent drawings of this production version of the MG Cyberster Concept, we also received the first technical specifications of the MG Cyberster. The MG Cyberster will be no less than 4.54 meters long, more than 1.90 meters wide and only 1.33 meters high. The distance between the front and rear axles is 2.69 metres. If we put a Mazda MX-5 next to it, then the Cyberster surpasses the Japanese in length by more than half a meter. The Cyberster is even more than 20 centimeters longer than the BMW Z4.
We could also tell you that the MG Cyberster weighs 1,850 kilos in the base and that there are even 1,885 kilos and 1,985 kilos heavy versions. That, of course, points to the arrival of more than one engine version. The lightest MG Cyberster has a 314 hp electric motor on the rear wheels, while the middle variant has a 340 hp electric heart. The heaviest variant has a 340 hp electric motor on the rear axle, but also a 204 hp one that is concerned with the drive of the front wheels. That four-wheel drive MG Cyberster promises to be very strong.
The MG Cyberster will come to Europe in the summer of 2024. Very likely the model will also come to the Netherlands!
