MG is expanding its Dutch delivery range with, among others, the MG 5 Electric and the Marvel R Electric, but the brand has numerous models in its international range that do not come to our country. One of them is a pick-up that goes by the name Extender. That Extender will now be fitted with a gaping mouth.
The MG Extender is a pick-up that is only delivered in Thailand. Although the model produced by the Thai joint venture between SAIC Motor and the Thai conglomerate Charoen Pokphand was only presented in the second half of 2019, the car is already under the knife.
The MG Extender is undergoing a major metamorphosis. That is also allowed. The MG Extender is in fact just a T70 of concern member Maxus and the original presented two years ago was the same as that T70 in just a few miniscule details. The renewed MG Extender gets a completely new front in which the octagonal gaping mouth defines the image. The grille is visually cut in two by a strip that also houses the MG logo. On both sides of the front we see thin LED daytime running lights. Underneath are the actual headlights. The rear will also be overhauled, albeit less drastically. The rear lights keep their shape but get a different layout. The units now equipped with LED technology have a C-signature that optically merges into red, plastic trim on the tailgate. This valve is now largely colored with a wide strip of black plastic.
There are hardly any adjustments to the interior. MG makes a new brown leather interior option available, but that’s where the news ends. There is no news on the motor level either, which means that the Extender will be delivered with a 160 hp 2.0 four-cylinder diesel engine. Two- and four-wheel drive is available and as before, MG is supplying the Extender again as a Double Cab and a Giant Cab with small ‘suicide doors’ at the rear, a body variant often referred to as ‘Extended Cab’. The MG Extender is of course not coming to the Netherlands.
