“MG wants to increase sales fivefold by 2024”

MG’s Chinese parent company Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) has big plans to celebrate the centennial of the originally British brand. Everything is described in the “Mission 100” strategy that should be rolled out by 2024.

That reports the British Coach after talking to SAIC’s Vice President Yang Xiaodong. “We have been planning this for a long time with MG, but we now have the feeling that the brand is now ready,” says the CEO. With the strategy, SAIC wants to ensure that MG will be sold in many more countries by 2024. In addition, sales must increase significantly to a target level of one million copies annually. In 2019, MG still sold 298,000 cars, 139,000 of which were exported to countries including Europe. Since last year, just under 1,200 new MGs have been registered in the Netherlands, of course all of the type ZS EV.

To realize the big dreams for the future, MG will expand its range considerably over the next 18 months. According to Autocar, there are seven new models on the menu for the next 1.5 years. Three of these firsts are completely new models. The sketches of the brand new roadster that were shared earlier this week should be a preview of one of the three newcomers. In the other four cases, this concerns a further development of existing models, in which in many cases a fully electric drivetrain is conjured up.

To attract more young buyers, MG says it is working on a new multimedia system that supports the new and much-discussed 5G. A new logo will also be presented over time. So great plans, we are curious.
