On pcactive.nl, John Vanderaart answers many questions, such as yesterday about protecting a USB stick with a password. Today he fixes how Microsoft Edge doesn’t keep opening while Google Chrome is the default browser.

I have set Google Chrome as my default web browser. But recently Microsoft Edge starts automatically when I do a search. How do I make sure that Google Chrome is used again?

You’re obviously referring to the Windows 10/Windows 11 search function, aren’t you? Your problem can also be tackled (slightly) by first starting Google Chrome and then searching from there, but that is not quite the desired solution. However? The solution lies in using a tool like Search Deflector, because there is – as yet – no possibility to set the default web browser for the search function of Windows 10/Windows 11. Microsoft likes to confiscate this search function for its own web browser! Here’s a link to a download on Major Geeks. There is also a version of Search Deflector in the Microsoft Store, see Figure 2.

Figure 1: Search Deflector will cause Microsoft Edge to be bypassed when using Windows 10/Windows 11 search feature.
