Microsoft Office apps support Dark Mode in Mojave

Working late into the night on a report in Word, presentation in PowerPoint or spreadsheet in Excel has become a lot more bearable thanks to the new Microsoft Office Dark Mode for macOS.

Microsoft Office Dark Mode supported

To take advantage of this dark mode, your Mac must be running at least macOS Mojave and you need the latest versions of the Office 365 suite. Microsoft’s programs use the dark mode that Apple has added throughout the operating system, so that Office automatically changes with other apps when you change this setting.

Microsoft Office apps support Dark Mode in Mojave

Microsoft brings the new Office Dark Mode to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Whether more of the company’s Mac apps will follow in future updates is not yet clear.

The update is a welcome improvement, as the bright white background of documents and accompanying menus make way for a dark gray window that is more pleasant to look at in the dark.

Continuity Camera support

In addition to support for macOS Mojave’s dark mode, Office also introduces Apple’s Continuity Camera feature. This allows you to take a photo on your iPhone and then paste it directly into a PowerPoint presentation, without having to manually send this image first. You activate this setting by clicking the ‘Take photo’ option in PowerPoint on your Mac.

Finally, Outlook has improved with some smaller improvements. For example, you can prevent people from forwarding an email, the built-in calendar now shows who is present at a meeting and you can quickly share this calendar from Outlook. The Office apps on iOS received a slightly smaller update, with support for the new screen sizes of the iPad Pro 2018.
