OneDrive and Microsoft Office drag & drop update

Since iOS 11, it has been possible on the iPad to drag and drop things to another app. Think of pieces of text, images or even entire files. App makers are still working on adding this functionality, and today it’s Microsoft’s turn. It is an important update because it makes working with the Office programs and OneDrive a lot easier.

The Microsoft Office programs are still widely used, for example to collaborate with people who do not own an Apple device. The apps are also useful if you own a Windows PC. With drag & drop you can place images or pieces of text in your documents.

OneDrive now also supports drag & drop, so you can move files from this cloud storage to another app. For example to share in a chat conversation.

Another big change is that OneDrive now supports the Files app. This means that on your iPhone or iPad you can upload and request files via OneDrive or SharePoint via any app that supports the Files app. You can also tag OneDrive files in the Files app for easy access. The OneDrive app has also had a minor redesign with a more detailed list to help you find what you’re looking for faster.

Another adjustment is that now on any device, be it an iPhone, Mac or PC, you can see in a document that you are working on with others who is currently working on it and what changes they are making. The renewed Office apps and OneDrive can now be found in the App Store. Still confused about drag & drop? We explain how drag & drop works on the iPad.
