1.5 million by 2030
An important milestone for the electrification of the Dutch vehicle fleet: there are now more than half a million fully electric passenger cars in the Netherlands.
The limit of 500,000 electric cars in the Netherlands has been passed, says Bovag. Before you start talking about exports: the trade organization does not look at sales figures, but at the entire fleet. De Bovag, together with the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, predicts that the EV fleet will triple again by 2030, for a total of 1.5 million electric passenger cars in the Netherlands. To put it all into perspective: on January 1, there were a total of about 9.1 million passenger cars in the Netherlands (CBS).
The Bovag is happy with the weight reduction promised in the new main lines agreement for the motor vehicle tax that will apply to EVs and advocates implementing something similar for plug-in hybrids, which can increasingly drive electrically.
The fact that the newly formed right-wing government wants to continue to promote EV sales in one way or another certainly makes Bovag chairman Han ten Broeke happy. Ten Broeke warns: “If we do not continue to encourage the switch to electric now, the government will have to take additional and far-reaching measures at a later date to achieve the agreed climate goals. And these measures have had an undesirable impact on motorists and on the market, such as higher tax rates and further speed limits. We can still prevent that now.”
