Shoot at EQA and X1
Mini is working on a compact electric crossover with which it wants to tackle cars such as the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz EQA and Volvo XC40. These spy photos show off that new EV better than ever.
In the middle of this year, Mini showed the Concept Aceman, a fairly concrete harbinger of an electric crossover that, given the popularity of such cars, may well play a major role. Just look at the large share that the (electric) XC40 has in Volvo sales. Unlike the XC40 and cars like the BMW X1 that Mini is targeting, the Aceman will only be marketed as an EV.
Although you might expect the Mini Aceman to be a technical brother of the X1, which also has an electric iX1, that is not at all obvious. It is quite possible that the Mini Aceman will be placed on an EV platform developed jointly by BMW and the Chinese Great Wall. BMW and Great Wall have a joint venture in the form of Spotlight Automotive that focuses on the development of electric cars. It is too early for specifications of the electric powertrain. We do know that the Mini Aceman is about 4 meters long and is therefore about 35 centimeters longer than, for example, the current Countryman. Those dimensions may also make the Mini Aceman an alternative to electric crossovers such as the Peugeot e-2008 and DS 3 Crossback.
The Mini Aceman is expected to hit the market in 2024. Like the conceptual precursor of the Mini Aceman, the production version is of course overloaded with typical Mini elements. Striking here are the more Countryman-like more angular headlights.
