Our spy photographer has managed to aim his zoom lens at a very small crossover from Hyundai. The small high-legged one probably shares its basis with the Hyundai i10, but the brave little one is probably not coming to the Netherlands.
Hyundai has an extremely compact crossover in the development rooms, which for the time being is codenamed AX1. The AX1 seems to be a brave little one with which Hyundai wants to aim its arrows at small crossovers like the Suzuki Ignis, although the car seems to be a bit smaller in the photos.
The ‘AX1’ most likely shares its technical basis with the Hyundai i10 and the Santro, available in India. We don’t mention India for nothing, because we wouldn’t be surprised if the final production version of the AX1 is only intended for growth markets. That would mean that the car will be marketed in South America as well as in India.
Although the AX1 will be a budget-attractive small crossover, Hyundai seems to be working on the car at the design level. For example, the rear door handles are housed in the C-pillar and the lighting at both front and rear also seems to be relatively pronounced. The nose is most likely characterized by lighting spread over two floors. Striking detail: Hyundai gives the AX1 not only disc brakes, also behind the rear wheels are discs instead of drums. The small crossover is likely to be available with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder. It is not yet known when Hyundai will present the production version. First, Hyundai will probably pull the curtain off the Bayon, a car that we are sure will come to Europe.
