Mitsubishi has presented an all-electric SUV called Airtrek. The Airtrek is less Mitsubishi than you might expect based on its appearance.
Earlier this year, AutoWeek showed you the first photos of the Airtrek, a new electric SUV that Mitsubishi is adding to its range in China. That Mitsubishi Airtrek has now been officially presented.
The Mitsubishi Airtrek is a 4.63 meter long electric SUV with a wheelbase of 2.83 meters. This makes the Airtrek comparable in length to cars such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The Airtrek has a 70 kWh battery pack in its bottom from which the Mitsubishi manages to squeeze out a range of up to 520 kilometers. At least, according to the inaccurate NEDC method. The front wheels are powered by a 184 hp electric motor.
The Mitsubishi Aitrek will cost about €29,000 in China. Contrary to what you might expect based on its appearance, the Airtrek was secretly not born as a Mitsubishi at all. The electric SUV specifically intended for the Chinese market is basically an Aion V, an electric SUV from Aion, which in turn is a sub-brand of the Chinese GAC. GAC Auto is also the partner with which Mitsubishi has a joint venture in China: GAC Mitsubishi.
The name Airtrek is not new for Mitsubishi. The brand previously used the model name in its home country Japan for the first generation Outlander, a car that, in addition to its own name, also had a different front.
