Mitsubishi comes with two new European models

Mitsubishi is now quite stripped down in Europe, but that is about to change. The brand comes with two new models specifically for the European market, based on Renaults.

Mitsubishi seemed well on its way to an almost complete departure from Europe. Currently, only the recently facelifted Eclipse Cross is still on the European schedule, the other models are or have been directed to the exit. Now, however, there is a big turnaround in the whole story. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance announces that two new Mitsubishi models are on the way, especially for the European market.

In 2023, the two will hit the market in ‘selected major European markets’. It remains to be seen whether the Netherlands will also be part of this, but the chance seems high. They will not be purely developed by Mitsubishi cars, but models based on Renaults. Mitsubishi itself speaks of ‘sister models’, which are basically Renaults and are also built by Renault. Of course with the necessary external distinction, so we probably do not have to expect clearly recognizable as Renault cars with Mitsubishi logos.

What it will be in concrete terms for cars, is still under wraps. We put our money first on a Mitsubishi version of the fully electric Renault Mégane eVision. Mitsubishi may be pulling an old well-known name for this, do not be surprised if that car is going to be sold as ASX. It is also possible that Mitsubishi will bring the new Outlander already unveiled in the United States to Europe. After all, that car shares its platform with the new Qashqai and the Nissan Rogue, the car that will eventually come to our country as the new X-Trail. It is quite possible that Renault will build that car for Mitsubishi alongside the next-generation Kadjar, a car that, like the Qashqai, Rogue / X-Trail, will be placed on the new CMF-C / D platform. Or is there perhaps a retro Colt (A150) in the barrel as the sister model of the new Renault 5? Another possibility: Mitsubishi will get a compact crossover linked to the Renault Captur. So it remains coffee grounds for the time being, but in any case it is good news for the brand.
