Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross renewed

Mitsubishi has released the first images of the thoroughly redesigned Eclipse Cross. The SUV presented in 2017 will get a new nose, a new rear and will soon also be available as a plug-in hybrid.

Mitsubishi previously showed a number of teasers of the renewed Eclipse Cross and today the brand shows the first real photos of the renewed SUV. The Eclipse Cross, presented in 2017, is tackled quite roughly. The appearance will be thoroughly revised, the car will be modernized on the inside and will soon be available as a plug-in hybrid.

We start with the muzzle, which is a lot more aggressive in design than that of the current model. The LED daytime running lights are a lot sharper and especially drawn flatter, but it doesn’t stop there. The complete front bumper has also been redesigned. The openings in which the actual headlights are housed remain, although the shape of the units themselves is completely different. Especially at the rear, the changes are substantial. Mitsubishi is one of the few brands that separates the previously connected rear lights from each other.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (2017 – 2020)

The earlier teaser plates already showed that Mitsubishi is also radically overhauling the rear of the Eclipse Cross. It will soon be done with the light bar running the entire width of the rear, a design element that divides the rear window into two parts. The new units will soon again run up the C-pillars, but will no longer be optically linked. It is in fact over and out for the light bar running the entire width of the bottom that divides the rear window into two parts. The taillights still go up into the C-pillars. The shape of the rear lights seems inspired by the ones on the back of the e-Volution Concept that Mitsubishi presented three years ago.

The changes to the interior are less radical, but still essential. Mitsubishi gives the Ecipse Cross a new infotainment system. Its screen is 8-inch in diameter, one inch larger than the current one. Just as relevant: the screen is now a lot closer to both driver and co-driver and Mitsubishi is adding two physical buttons. Still handy. The touchpad previously associated with the system has been relegated to the trash.

Mitsubishi does not release extensive technical specifications yet. We do know that the SUV will be available as a plug-in hybrid for the first time. This plug hybrid undoubtedly has a powertrain where the necessary hardware has been cut from the bucket with parts of the Outlander PHEV.

Information regarding the Dutch market will follow soon.
