Mitsubishi shows renewed MPV

Mitsubishi shows renewed MPV

In the document in which it discusses its results from the past fiscal year, Mitsubishi has shown an image of a renewed MPV with a stubborn face.

Most Mitsubishi models have an expressive front with angular bumpers, flat and two-layer lighting and a large grille. The Eclipse Cross that Mitsubishi supplies in the Netherlands and the L200 have such a front, but the really distinctively designed models of the brand are sold far beyond our borders. For example, in its home country of Japan, Mitsubishi has this Delica D:5 on the menu, which has a very fierce snout. In a document in which Mitsubishi releases financial figures, the brand shows a plate of a renewed MPV that similarly brutally peers into the world.

The stubborn-looking MPV is not a completely new model from Mitsubishi, it is the facelifted version of the Xpander. The Xpander is a relatively compact MPV built in Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia that came on the market in 2017 in large parts of Asia, South Africa and Mexico and which has also had a Nissan brother in the form of the Livina since 2019. The model launched four years ago already had a similar front, but gets a new grille with a black top, new LED daytime running lights in the top layer and redesigned headlamps located one floor below.

Mitsubishi Xpander Cross

Mitsubishi Xpander Cross (2019-2021)

The Xpander, always powered by a 105 hp 1.5 four-cylinder petrol engine, is 4.48 meters long and resembles an SUV due to its relatively high ground clearance, although Mitsubishi also supplies it as a more ruggedly powered Cross that boosts the SUV content extra. There is even a real rally version in the form of the Xpander AP4.

The Xpander is not the only one of its kind. In large parts of Asia, Toyota and Daihatsu sell the identical twins Rush-Terios and Suzuki and Honda have the XL6/7 and BR-V in this segment respectively. Each relatively compact MPV with SUV influences. In Europe, MPVs have been rapidly replaced by crossovers and SUVs in recent years. Would such space giants with compact outer dimensions be an enrichment for the European market? Let us know in the comments!
