Mitsubishi Space Star slightly more expensive

Of the two models that Mitsubishi offers in the Netherlands, one is by far the oldest: the Space Star. Unfortunately for those who had the sober Space Star on their wish list, the Mitsubishi is slightly more expensive.

Mitsubishi is coming very soon with a new ASX and later the brand will also add a new Colt to its range. Until then, the Mitsubishi range consists of only two models: the Eclipse Cross and the Space Star. With 2013 as the year of introduction, the Space Star has gained many years of experience. Incidentally, it is not at all surprising that cars in the Space Star segment last a long time. For example, the Volkswagen Up was introduced two years before the Space Star. In its ninth year on the Dutch market, the prices of the Space Star are rising.

At €15,490, the starting price of the Mitsubishi Space Star is now €500 higher than before. For that more than 15 grand you get the Space Star in Entry version, with standard power windows at the front, Hill Start Assist, rain and light sensors and electrically adjustable door mirrors. A step above that is the Connect+, which has become about €700 more expensive with a starting price of €17,190. The Connect+ has a start/stop system, air conditioning, central locking with remote control, a 7-inch display to which you can connect your phone, a rear spoiler, a parcel shelf and lighting in the luggage compartment. The Space Star is also available as Dynamic and Instyle and then costs €18,190 and €20,490 in succession. The Instyle is the most luxurious variant and has, among other things, electrically heated door mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, privacy glass, cruise control, LED taillights and headlights, a reversing camera, 15-inch alloy, heated seats in the front, an automatically dimming interior mirror and Keyless entry.

The above versions and prices apply to the Mitsubishi Space Star with the well-known 71 hp and 102 Nm strong 1.2 three-cylinder in combination with a manual five-speed gearbox. The Space Star is also available with a CVT transmission. In that case you can only choose from the Dynamic (€20,190) and Instyle (€22,490).

Space Star in the Netherlands

The Space Star is not as good as the Kia Picanto (4,559 units) in the Netherlands and the Hyundai i10 (2,626 units) also has to tolerate the small Mitsubishi in the sales statistics. However, with 932 copies sold, more Space Stars have already been sold this year than Volkswagens Up (764). As mentioned, the Space Star appeared in 2013 and underwent a facelift in both 2016 and 2020. The Japanese had its best Dutch sales year in 2018. Then 3,160 new copies rolled out of the showroom. Fun facts: outside Europe the Space Star is called ‘Mirage’ and there is even an Attrage or Mirage G4 called a four-door sedan. Dodge sells a variant of this in Mexico under the name Attitude.
