Mobility alliance: ‘need an extra 3 billion euros per year until 2040’

The Mobility Alliance, a partnership of 25 parties in the mobility sector, calls on informer Mariëtte Hamer in a letter to pay extra attention to mobility when forming the new cabinet. According to the alliance, an extra €3 billion per year will be needed from the national budget until 2040 to set up ‘the mobility system of the future’.

By this ‘mobility system of the future’ the Mobility Alliance understands several points, which it explained earlier. This showed that the 25 parties, including the ANWB, Bovag, NS, Vereniging Zakelijke Rijders and the KNAC, are arguing for a kilometer charge, tackling bottlenecks in the road network and promoting road safety. People also like to see the government invest in smart transport apps and hubs for passenger and freight transport in city centers, so that people can switch more easily from means of transport. In addition, public transport must also be further scaled up and people are calling for flexible work, school and travel times to spread out peak hours as much as possible.

With the letter, the Mobility Alliance wants to ensure that informer Hamer includes the points set out in the policy agenda. Until 2040, an additional €3 billion per year would be needed to implement the plans. According to the Mobility Alliance, the demand for mobility will return to the ‘pre-corona’ level in five years’ time, which is why people are arguing for making investment decisions now for the future. “The Mobility Alliance is ready to take the lead, together with the informateur, the forming parties and social partners, and to make the Netherlands an international example in integrated mobility policy,” the letter reads.
