Modest sales dip for Porsche in 2020

Despite the pandemic, Porsche has had a good year. Total sales of the Stuttgart sports car brand fell by only a modest 3 percent to 272,162 cars. In the Netherlands, total Porsche sales even increased.

Now the Dutch market is of course only a modest part of Porsche’s total sales, but nevertheless the brand achieved a sales increase of 38.2 percent to 1,844 cars. The introduction of the Taycan, which was sold 436 times in our country in the past year, has made a significant contribution to this. Despite a six-week production shutdown, the Taycan sold more than 20,000 times worldwide. With that, the EV comes close to the total sales of the 718 – 21,784 cars. The Cayenne still remains an important trump card for Porsche with 92,860 cars sold. Last year, 34,328 of the 911s rolled out of the showrooms.

Next year, Porsche will most likely pull the curtain off the new 911 GT3 and a rear-wheel drive variant of the Taycan will also be launched on the market. In addition, the Macan gets a freshening up. More exciting is the Taycan Cross Turismo, the more spacious variant of the Taycan that will debut this year. Porsche’s EV offer will probably increase even more in the years that follow, starting with the electric Macan in 2022. The brand has the ambition to be virtually fully electric in ten years: by 2025, the share of EVs in the total sales are already 50 percent and by 2030 80 percent of the new Porsches will be electric.
