We all want to have fun in our lives and ideally a lot of it. Fun is a subjective feeling of pleasure that results from participating in an activity or experience that you find entertaining or enjoyable. A wide variety of things can trigger fun, for example humorous situations, sports activities, creative work, social interactions or experiencing adventures.
Accordingly, it differs from person to person what they perceive as fun. Ultimately, fun is a positive emotion that can improve our well-being and quality of life.
We present you with tips that will help you have more fun in everyday life.
4 tips for more fun in life
1. Make room for fun in your life:
- Not everything that happens to you in life is always fun or should always be fun. However, there are also many situations in which you can decide to have fun and consciously allow the fun – for example at work. Getting the job done doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fun in the process. Friendly social interactions not only allow you to have fun at work, but also create a better work environment that benefits everyone. But there are other ways to make work more fun. For example, you could make certain tasks playful. However, you could also move meetings where this is possible outside and go for a walk or have a coffee.
- Even at home it is possible to invite more joie de vivre into certain situations. If you have children, try to keep certain problematic issues away from the dinner table and use this time to be fun and casual as a family. Also play cards or board games together or sing together. Another possibility is to make things playful: turn the boring cleaning session into a dance party with the help of music, for example. Try not to take yourself too seriously. Laugh at yourself or when mishaps happen to you.
2. Ask yourself if you really need something:
- In today’s consumer society, there is too much of everything. Whether it’s clothing or food, there is theoretically enough and for most people it’s affordable enough to often even buy it in bulk, which would be unnecessary. As a result, many people go shopping as a hobby, since it also makes many people happy. However, excessive consumption is harmful to the climate and the environment, because it drives resource exploitation and makes high-emission goods transport necessary. But having a lot doesn’t always make you happy. as it can be overwhelming. There are now also trends that are more in the direction of having fun, owning less or only surrounding yourself with loved ones – for example minimalism or magic cleaning.
- For example, if you want to buy something new, ask yourself beforehand whether you really need it or whether you might be able to get hold of this item in some other way. For example, if you want to buy something new to wear, you could host a clothes swap party with your friends instead of going shopping. But you could also upcycle old clothes and sew them around, for example. Other options for more fun experiences include making jewelry or soap with your friends, painting together, or cooking together instead of ordering home delivery. You can also have fun by investing in experiences or micro-adventures. For example, you save money for travel or other leisure activities such as an escape room or sports activities such as bouldering.
3. Reduce the pressure on special events:
- When it comes to special events, there is often great pressure to meet certain expectations. Such as giving special gifts or an unforgettable experience. The resulting stress can reduce the fun. And that although the birthday child or other people involved may not personally value it that much or even have different ideas. So try to take the pressure off. In other words, it is best to talk to everyone involved about what they really want for their celebration. Who should be invited? Do you really want to do a certain activity? Or just spending time together and maybe eating together? Discuss with other participants what is really important to them and what they want to make fun. This way you can take a lot of pressure off and everyone involved will probably be happier and have a lot more fun in the end. In addition, there is less chance of disappointment. You can also try to make the preparations fun.
4. Take the time to be a kid again:
- Each of us was once a child and we see it again and again in the children around us how happy they can be about a wide variety of things. They perceive the world very differently than we do. Many of the qualities that distinguished us as children are lost as we grow older. Although these have given us a lot of joy and still can.
- So try to be more of a kid again. Try to have fun like a kid. You can also orientate yourself to children and see what they enjoy. In the winter, you might want to have a snowball fight or play games from childhood, like tag and hide and seek.
- Try to be curious like a child. To do this, be more careful and maybe try a new recipe or go into the forest and try to discover new insects or birds that you don’t already know.
- Have fun getting creative like a kid, so for example just sit down and start drawing. Or think of a story and write it down.
That was some inspiration on things that can help you and be fun. It’s best to think about how you can increase the fun in your life. Or what you can perhaps eliminate from your life, which you do not enjoy at all.
