Patience for the good cause

Next year there will be a slightly greater chance that you will experience delays due to road work. A wide range of (road) works are planned for 2024.
In the new year, which starts in just four weeks, more large-scale work is planned than this year. This is evident from Rijkswaterstaat’s ‘State of the Infrastructure’ report published this week. Major maintenance will be carried out at no fewer than 42 places on the main road network in 2024 (see Figure 2). Last year this involved 40 locations. Rijkswaterstaat warns that work must be carried out more regularly during the day due to the large crowds.
In the new year, there will not only be more places where Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out major maintenance, but 52 locations in the main road network have also been identified where nuisance may arise due to postponed work and/or more inspections. In total, including the main waterway network and main water system, large-scale maintenance will be carried out at 71 places next year, compared to 56 places in 2023.
As can be clearly seen in Figure 2, a lot of work is planned in the Randstad and North Brabant. Flevoland is home to the dance and there is not much going on in Drenthe either. It is very busy around Rotterdam, along the A4 and south of Utrecht.
