More power and minor changes for Toyota Land Cruiser

Cars are increasingly fashionable, but the Toyota Land Cruiser does not let itself be fooled. This fixed value in the Toyota range has once again been fine-tuned, with more power and therefore better performance as the main consequence. The car is still not cheap in the Netherlands.

The 2.8-liter diesel engine in the sturdy nose of the Land Cruiser gains 27 hp, bringing the total to 204 units. The torque, especially important in this case, increases by 50 Nm to a total of 500 Nm. That torque is already available at 1,600 rpm. The 0-100 sprint is completed with the more powerful engine in 9.9 seconds, a remarkably substantial 3 counts faster than its predecessor.

Toyota is also equipping its terrain executioner with a stop-start system, which means that consumption and CO2 emissions are slightly lower than before. To be precise, this involves a profit of 0.7 liters per 100 km and 18 grams less CO2 per kilometer.

Apple and Android

At the same time, some other changes are being made to the Land Cruiser. For example, the car gets a renewed infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. There are also more safety features, as usual, grouped together under the name Toyota Safety Sense. That now includes a Pre-Collision System, which can detect pedestrians and cyclists. Adaptive cruise control is now also available.

Anyone who wants to convey to the outside world that he or she has purchased the most current version of Toyota’s Land Cruiser should order the new Black Line version. That variant has a dark grille, ditto trim on the back, black 18-inch wheels and numerous other black accents on the inside and outside.

Prices

The Land Cruiser available in the Netherlands is in fact a Land Cruiser Prado, the little brother of the rather gigantic J200 ‘Cruiser’ that is also offered elsewhere. ‘Our’ Land Cruiser is basically from 2009, but received a major facelift in 2017. The car has not become cheaper since then. With a yellow license plate, the new 204 hp version costs a whopping € 93,995 thanks to an abundant amount of BPM, which is a bare, manual three-door version. Whoever wants to know what that looks like should take a look at this edition of ‘Back to Basics’. A five-door Land Cruiser costs a minimum of € 97,295, while a seven-seater costs a minimum of € 106,795. The top model is the seven-seater in Executive trim, which should yield € 122,995.

Luckily, anyone who wants to drive a new Land Cruiser in the Netherlands can opt for the gray license plate versions. In exchange for the back seat and some glass, entrepreneurs pay (excluding VAT) € 34,295 for the simplest three-door and € 57,595 for the very thickest Land Cruiser. The cheapest five-door in this case should fetch € 35,495.
