More than 385,000 17-year-olds obtained their driving license since 2011

Since 2011, 385,000 young people have obtained their driver’s license when they were 17 years old. This will be announced by the Central Bureau of Driving Skills (CBR) on the day that the 2toDrive project has been in existence for ten years.

2toDrive has been around for exactly ten years, which means that it has been possible for ten years to get your driver’s license at 17. In those ten years, 385,000 young people have done so, the CBR reports.

17-year-olds can pass that exam. The pass rate for the first practical exam of 17-year-olds is 60.5 percent higher than that of exam candidates who are 18 years or older (52 percent).

2toDrive is a collaboration between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the CBR, the RDW and youth organization TeamAlert. The project makes it possible for young people from the age of 16 to pass their theory exam. From the age of 16.5 you can take practical lessons, from 17 you can actually take your practical exam. Incidentally, as a 17-year-old you are not allowed to get behind the wheel alone after getting your driver’s license. Until the age of eighteen you can only drive under supervision.

On November 1, 2011, the then Minister of Infrastructure Melanie Schultz gave the final green light for 2toDrive. 2toDrive was introduced to increase road safety among novice drivers.
