More traffic fines issued than before corona

For the first time, more traffic fines have been issued than before corona. This is reported by the Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB). Last year, almost 8.5 million fines were issued, compared to almost 8.4 million in 2019. Compared to 2022, almost 4 percent more fines were issued last year. Most fines were for speeding, incorrect parking or running a red light.

However, the largest increase in the number of fines can be seen for other types of violations. Many more people drove in areas where they were not allowed, such as car-free zones and environmental zones. They were fined 130,000 times more often for this than a year earlier. In addition, people were more often caught not wearing a helmet when it was mandatory and for using the phone while cycling or driving a car.
