Sales of used cars are going very well this year. In August there was again a growth compared to last year in the same month.
Occasions are very popular this year. In July there was even talk of a new monthly record. There is more and more demand for used passenger cars, partly due to the fact that public transport is now avoided by a large proportion of the Dutch. In August, however, it is normally – because of the holidays – a bit quieter on the car market and that also applies for this year. Last month, a total of 234,368 used cars went to another owner, according to figures from VWE Automotive. Significantly less than the month before (275,281) but just a little more than last year. Then 231,589 cars went to another owner in August, which is 1.2 percent more this year.
The vast majority of sales were made from companies to consumers: 110,766 cars (+2.4 percent). Sales between private individuals increased by 3.5 percent compared to August last year, to 51,789 cars. Between companies, with 71,813 used cars, sales were 2.2 percent less than in 2019. All in all, somewhat less shocking differences compared to last year than was the case in recent months. The total commercial vehicle trade even decreased by 2.5 percent compared to August last year. This while also in that area there was especially noticeable growth in the previous months. A total of 20,926 company cars were transferred to another owner in August.
