Morgan Plus Four completely renewed

Morgan is currently in a special phase. The small English car manufacturer is renewing its model range, a process that is rare. Last year the Geneva brand presented a completely new Plus Six to the world. The Motor Show should have been the stage this year on which the new Plus Four would experience its debut. The Swiss stock market is canceled, but that does not stand in the way of the unveiling of Morgan’s new ‘modern four-cylinder classic’.

Just like the new Morgan Plus Six, the Plus Four uses a brand new aluminum base, a platform that must be twice as stiff as the one that Morgan used before in its models. The name of the Plus Four makes one big difference with the Plus Six immediately clear: this newcomer has to do it with two pips less. Another noticeable difference with the Plus Six: where Morgan gave the latter clearly modern design elements, the appearance of this Plus Four is a lot more traditional. The Plus Four is 7.8 centimeters narrower than its more powerful brother.

The new Plus Four has a four-cylinder BMW under the hood, a 2.0-liter turbo engine that generates 258 hp and 400 Nm. The Plus Four is available with a six-speed manual gearbox, but is also available with a modern eight-speed automatic gearbox with shift flippers. The manual version sprints to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds and stops accelerating at 240 km / h. Anyone who has ordered the variant with automatic transmission must be able to do that job in 4.8 seconds. The dry weight of the manual version is 1,013 kilos, the Plus Four with automatic transmission weighs slightly less with 1,009 kilos.

Although the Plus Four looks more traditional than the Plus Six, Morgan’s new model with four-cylinder power station is a lot more modern than its predecessor. Automatic LED lighting on both front and rear is standard, the same applies to central door locking and ABS. Power steering is on the option list, the same applies to things like sun visors and locking straps for the bonnet. Also optional: entry lighting and the possibility to connect your device with Bluetooth to the audio system.
