The most dangerous stretch of motorway in the Netherlands in 2020 was a bend in the A7 near Zaandam. This is evident from an analysis of Incident Management Foundation, message BNR News Radio.
Danger is of course a relative concept, but on the A7 near Zaandam you can at least find the part of the highway where the most accidents took place last year. This specifically concerns the left turn at the Zaandam junction (hectometre post 4.0 to 4.9), where you leave the A7 from Purmerend and take a long left turn towards the A8 to Amsterdam. A maximum speed of 70 km / h applies in the two-lane corner, but that could not prevent as many as 43 accidents in 2020. The highest number on a kilometer of motorway in the Netherlands. According to the Incident Management Netherlands Foundation, this place was also high on the list in 2013, then in fourth place with 44 accidents.
Measured over a longer route (5 km), the A16 over the Van Brienenoord Bridge turned out to be the most dangerous in 2020. On the route from Rotterdam-Feijenoord to Capelle a / d IJssel, hectometre markers 20.0 to 24.9, no fewer than 98 accidents occurred last year. A decrease of 15 percent compared to 2019, but a much smaller decrease than average. In 2019, the five kilometers ahead – 15.0 to 19.9 – took first place. That trajectory came in third place in 2020 with 81 accidents.
There is also good news; remarkably fewer accidents happened on the A12 near the Gouwe Aqueduct, between 27.0 and 27.9. There, with 19 accidents, a decrease of no less than 60 percent was noticeable. This is probably due to the large absence of traffic jams last year, SIMN reports. Also on the A10 near Amsterdam-West, between 10.0 and 14.9, things went considerably better. In 2019, that route was still in third place in terms of accidents, but last year in tenth place with 63 accidents.
