With the launch of the X-Cape 650, Moto Morini put itself back on the motorcycle map two years ago. For 2024, the Italians have expanded the color palette of the popular midsize Allroad with Black Ebony.
When Moto Morini was taken over by the Zhongneng Vehicle Group in 2018, with the intention of launching a completely new line of motorcycles, we were happy about the news. Especially when the prototype of the first new model, the X-Cape 650, was presented a few years later.
Things got even better when private importer Moto Mondo was appointed as the new importer for the Benelux, finally putting the famous brand back in the spotlight it deserves after more than 10 years of absence.
The X-Cape was the first model since the takeover by Zhongneng, but an initial test in our own country showed us that China’s influence had only been positive. Designed and developed in Italy, produced in China. In other words: the best of both worlds.
Besides the fact that we were quite charmed by its distinctive looks and driving characteristics, its strongest asset was perhaps its price, which was at the level of its Japanese competitors. Or even more competitively priced. And that for a bike that was clearly saturated with Italian DNA.
The success of the X-Cape was also reflected in the sales figures. Over the past two years, a total of 135 have been sold in the Netherlands and that is only two fewer than BMW sold the F 850 GS and GS Adventure in the same time, while in principle these are two different models, and no fewer than 45 more than the Aprilia Tuareg 660.
The first year you only had the choice of red or white, called Red Passion and Carrara White, to which Smoky Anthracite was later added. But they didn’t think that was enough in Italy, so a fourth color was added: Black Ebony.
The new color is not the only thing that is attractive. The 2024 X-Cape 650 is now available from €8,299, which is even 300 euros cheaper than in its first year. And while inflation has resulted in significant price increases everywhere, and the TFT screen now has integrated navigation via the MotoFun app.
